The region's towns all have their very own castle or fortress, the largest of which is in Chambord, near to Blois. Louis XIV occupied the grandest of the castle's rooms and there are 439 other rooms in the castle!
You can also go and see the equestrian statue of Joan of Arc in Orléans. Another place to visit is Blois - home to a castle and a number of medieval streets. A little farther west you will find the town of Saumur, a town with a variety of museums to explore, as well as a hilltop castle with stunning views of the River Loire. At Saumur you can also find 'Troglodytes', caves carved into the rocks and previously inhabited by the poor.
This 4 star camping site is in a wooded area, a stone's throw away from the famous castles of the Loire, a place of peace, relaxation and space. You will find the campsite in the vicinity of Cheverny in the department Loir-et-Cher.
It is close to the famous castles of Cheverny and Chambord, as well as the Beauval Zoo, so plenty to visit in the area.
Almost all the pitches have shade and there is a field for campers. Rental accommodation comprises chalets (from 24 to 36 m2), bungalow tents and sporty tents.
There are 3 pools - indoor, outdoor and a paddling pool for toddlers. On site there is a restaurant, bar and grocery store with fresh bread every morning.

A 4 star campsite in the heart of the Loire Valley, between Tours and Saumur, in a beautiful rural location. It is set In a UNESCO World Heritage Site and in the Loire-Anjou-Touraine Natural Park, popular with cyclists and hikers.
The 75 pitches are very well laid out and sunny - there is not a lot of shade on this site as the trees are relatively young.
In addition there are 41 mobile homes, bungalows and canvas lodges, including one mobile home adapted for people with reduced mobility.
There is a heated indoor swimming pool next to the restaurant and a paddling pool for the little ones.
This site gets very good reviews, with one reviewer saying:
"A really warm welcome. Good pitch and the facilities are great. Plenty of hot water and kept really clean. The food in the restaurant is excellent and the method of cooking is very different.
The campsite hosts are great people, nothing is too much trouble. Cycling from the campsite is fantastic with Château’s to visit in every direction. The small town of Langeais is nearby with lovely cafes, Chateau and a decent sized supermarket. Well worth a visit."

Camping La Promenade is located just a few steps from the banks of the Loire, in the village of Montjean-sur-Loire.
A well maintained site with tall trees and green hedged borders on the pitches. There are mainly touring pitches: 150 pitches, so this is a real campsite for campers travelling in tents, folding trailers, caravans or motorhomes. There are also about 20 bungalows, lodge tents and chalets.
This 4 star 3.5 hectare site is near a beach on the Loire which is wide and the water is calm. This means bathing is also an option for smaller children. To get to the river you have to cross a road and walk through a park (with picnic benches and playground equipment). Also to access the swimming pool of the campsite you have to cross a small road.
