When looking at camping sites in the south of France to review, we took a number of factors into account, such as:
We are first taking a look at a couple of sites in the Côte d'Azur area.
This 3 star site can be found in Ramatuelle, in the heart of the Gulf of Saint Tropez. It has 124 tourist pitches & 12 leisure pitches and is open from 19/04/2025 to 05/10/2025.
Nestled in the heart of a Mediterranean pine forest, Ladouceur campsite welcomes all campers with tents, caravans, vans, and motorhomes.
It is close to the most beautiful beaches and the coastal path, and is set in a true, natural environment in pine forests and overlooks the wonderful Escalet beach.
During your stay, you can also enjoy a taste of typical Saint-Tropez life, combining relaxation, discovery and sporting activities at Pampelonne Beach. This is a long stretch of white sand and clear aquamarine water where celebrities and influencers love to party.
For more information and pricing for the Camping Ladouceur you can visit their website here.
Camp du Domaine is a large campsite in a beautiful location by the sea with a lovely long sandy beach (including a very child-friendly area) and clear water. The site is divided by a long hill into an area close to the beach and an area "away from the beach".
It has rental accommodation as well as pitches. There is a restaurant and a small supermarket where you can get almost everything. There is also a pizza delivery service.
There is a full programme of activities and games in the Children's Clubs free of charge. With the sand just a few metres away there are numerous activities, eg, sandcastle competitions, paddle games, and other fun beach games. Also evening entertainment for all!
Reviews do say "the sanitary facilities are not the most modern, but they are absolutely clean. They were cleaned several times a day."
Overall, this is a family-friendly 5-star campsite on the Côte d'Azur.
You can go to the Camp du Domaine website here.

We now head inland a bit to a site in the Provence area but still only 15km from the Côte d'Azur and the Mediterranean Sea.
Camping Leï Suves is a beautiful terraced campsite in Roquebrune-sur-Argens, only 15 km from the sandy beaches of the Côte d'Azur. You can swim in the pool overlooking the beautiful hills of Provence, or head to the Mediterranean for a swim! You can discover the typical Provençal villages nearby too.
The grounds are perfectly maintained with spacious camping pitches, varying in size. The oak trees offer ample shade.
This is a family-friendly campsite with a lovely heated swimming pool, with a separate toddler pool. In July and August the entertainment team organises all kinds of activities for the children during the day. In the evenings there is a mini disco.
There are also plenty of adult activities at this site including water aerobics, tennis court, a sports field and a pétanque pitch. There is bar-restaurant on site too - reviews say the food is very good!

We are now moving further south towards the Spanish border.
We've found this great 3 star campsite in Le Boulou, Pyrénées-Orientale. It's 15 minutes from Argelès-sur-Mer beach resort and a few kilometers from the border of Spain, at the foot of the Albères mountain range. This site is perfect for a stopover if you are driving to Spain, but also for your full family camping holiday.
The site is close to various lakes and picturesque villages like Castelnou. There really is the chance to enjoy the mountains and the sea!
The site has 72 shaded pitches (tents, caravans, mobile homes), including some dedicated to mobile homes you can rent).
You can join in musical and dance evenings, karaoke, entertainment around the outdoor pool, children's creative workshops, play area and room, or simply relax under the two-hundred-year-old olive trees with a book! There is a nearby cycle route and you can rent bikes too.
You don't always have to cook, as the camp site has a snack bar (people especially mention the pizzas), and also supplies fresh bread.
Reviews complement how peaceful the site is, and how friendly the owners are. The whole site has a great family atmosphere which always makes for a good camping family vacation.

Camping Pegomas is a quiet, family campsite in the heart of beautiful Provence, near the historic center of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, set between olive trees and vineyards.
There are 96 camping pitches for tents, caravans, motorhomes and 12 air-conditioned mobile homes for rent. There is also a swimming pool with sunbeds. It is open from April 5 to November 2, 2025.
Bread and croissants are available at Reception and there are laundry facilities as well as a very clean sanitary facility. It is very family and baby friendly, with baby kit to hire. A snack bar offers food and drinks, and food trucks visit several times a week.
It is easy to walk to the town center of Saint-Rémy, one of the oldest villages in France. Stroll through the narrow streets of the old town and enter the Provençal shops.
The campsite is at the foot of the Alpilles Natural Park and is great for hiking and cycling, especially in the Spring.
Overall, this is a small, quiet, traditional campsite with a great family atmosphere, perfect for relaxing and exploring the area.
