Normandy is a great destination for a short break or as a base to explore this region that has beautiful countryside, cathedral cities, and famous historical sites like the D-Day beaches. It also features the Benedictine abbey of Mont St Michel, perched on top of a 160ft granite rock - a must-see!
You can visit to the town of Bayeux to see the beautiful Bayeux tapestry depicting the 1066 conquest of England.
But which camp sites are worth looking at? While nearly all sites in France are high-standard, some are better than others. We take a look at some of the best and those in a location to explore the region of Normandy.
A peaceful and relaxing 4-star campsite in Seine Maritime with an indoor swimming pool. In the lovely setting of the beautiful Jumièges forest, this site is open from April 5th to October 25th each year.
This campsite is close to Rouen, the "city of 100 bell towers" and has 111 camping pitches, including 74 for tents, caravans and motorhomes, as well as 5 chalets and 17 comfortable mobile homes that can accommodate up to 6 people.
There's a covered and heated swimming pool, open from May 15th to September 30th - swim whatever the weather!
Outside, there's a paddling pool for children and adults open from July 1st to September 15th with fun slides and a water mushroom.

A Municipal campsite set an easy riverside walk away from the town centre of Bayeux and its world-famed tapestry, and a 10-minute drive from the Normandy coast and D-Day beaches.
The site has bikes to hire to take to the town or the coast. Other facilities include a playground, table tennis and a pétanque court. There may be no pool on site, but there's a splendid indoor pool at the Centre Aquatique Auréo, which is just five minutes' walk away and free for guests to use.
The site has a bread and pastries service if you work up an appetite with all the outdoor activities in the region.
During the season, food trucks regularly set up shop at the campsite in the evenings. Shops and restaurants await you in Bayeux town center, just a few minutes' walk away.
This is also a dog-friendly campsite with a three star rating.
This looks a very good site for walks and activities in Bayeux and the Bessin region, and to visit the historic sites of the Normandy coast.

Sous Les Étoiles, "Under The Stars", is a 5 star rated, family-run campsite nestled in the village of St Martin des Besaces, Calvados, in a quiet and peaceful setting. The area is famous for its exquisite cheeses and sparkling cider, and, of course, the renowned Calvados.
This site is ideal for the Caen - Portsmouth, UK ferry, and also as a base for exploring Normandy. Reviews say the British owners are very friendly and have an on-going programme of improvements to the site, which is already excellent. There are various sized well-maintained, grassy pitches from those just for cyclists and motorcyclists up to extra large size.
Facilities include an updated sanitary area, laundry room, games room and play area, Le Cowshed Bar & Grill with good food and drink options, Le Bar for drinks and a small Boutique shop. Reviews also say the WiFi is good!
Overall, a great value site and a good base to explore all the sights of Normandy. It's very suitable for families - we like the sound of this one!
